Cast & Characters

‘Blaze’, as everyone likes to call him, is a former professional football player whose career ended prematurely due to injury. He has since reinvented himself as a football agent on the rise, representing footballers up and down the country. The difference here is he’s an agent who actually gives a shit about his clients. He’s a smooth operator, a slick talker, a social chameleon who looks up to the 70s leading man with his righteous style, with his 70’s funk grooves and his signature ‘Tony Mane

Straight-laced, sharp as a razor, Natalie Isaacs, a disarmingly attractive of mixed race heritage, graduated from the South African Police Service Academy in Paarl nine years ago, with a specialty in psychological profiling. This naturally beautiful, blue (or green) eyed Detective distinguished herself within the boys club of Morningside Police Station, by tracking down a renowned serial rapist who had escaped authorities for years, in her first three months in the department.

It seems a lifetime ago that Lesego Moleko was a shy, humble 17-year-old, who had broken into the First Division after being spotted in a knockout tournament in Soweto. Flash forward 12 years and now he is king of the local football castle – mega sponsorship deals from cell-phone giants, fast food chains, clothing outlets … he lives life like a video game! Status is everything and as the highest-paid and most popular player in the football league, Lesego believes if you’ve got it, flaunt it.

Ruthless and garrulous French-Lebanese sociopath Jean-Pierre Yasbek starts out as a fellow football agent of Blaze’s, but quickly defects to a much more powerful agency that has a monopoly on local transfers. He has represented a kaleidoscope of football stars over years and usually gets who and what he wants, when he wants it.

In football circles, Walter Mbebe, is a living legend, a brilliant playmaker in his day, he went on to play in Europe and North America. Post retirement he came back to South Africa to take over his father’s club and continue the legacy of the Dubes. He’s an icon of reconciliation and solidarity, of everything that is good about this country. People speak of him in the same terms they speak of Tambo and Mandela.

Sexy, tattooed and pierced Jade Singh is the grand doyen of football on social media. She lives, breathes, watches, plays, writes, tweets and sleeps football – it is her staple diet; she is exceptionally good at analyzing the local and international game. She’s the Deputy Editor of Laduma, Africa’s biggest football publication, and this pisses off the males in her field.

Phumlani Dube is the ‘trigger-happy’ psychopathic son of the owner of one of the biggest football clubs in the country, Walter Dube. Phumlani’s family is South African football royalty. His thirst for power is unrivaled and he’s in love with the fear that now surrounds him following rumors of his ties with gangsters.

Godi Zulu (mid-30’s) shares three things that all PA’s around the world encounter, and these are: immunity to stress-induced ulcers, an admittedly warped view of a personal life and a yearning not to have it any other way. Godi has got used to the eye-rolling by friends when she’s had to leave dinner early to take a call from Blaze. She’s got a kid from a previous relationship, which she now looks after by herself with the help of a babysitter.

Monte grew up in Alexandra with his impoverished parents and an older sister, Delilah, who was the apple of their eye. Delilah was the family’s ticket to better times, because she had been scouted as a young, emerging model and when she turned 17 was offered her first contract. The family lived vicariously through her success and expected her to go on and become a super-model and help them escape from their bleak existence.

This character is Harvey Specter (Gabriel Macht), Morpheus (Laurence Fishburne), Gordon Gekko (Michael Douglas), Don Corleone (Marlon Brando) and John Milton (Al Pacino) all rolled into one. He has huge presence and is the overlord of this world. Slick and always suited up, Nigerian CHRISTOPHER KILEMBE (early 50’s), is one of the most powerful sports lawyers in the country, whose clients include famous footballers, cricketers, rugby stars, athletes and golfers.

Mila Dior is an unconventional, talented, quirky, aspiring actress who has recently come to Joburg to pursue her dream. She is one of the only family friends Blaze still has in his life. He helped her get on her feet when she moved to Joburg after being awarded a scholarship at Wits to study performance, where she honed her craft as a thespian.
